“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things” (Philippians 4:6-8 NKJV).
Last Thursday I shared Philippians 4:6-8 with 20+ of my co-workers, followed by prayer for patience and wisdom during our monthly meeting. Then, this past Wednesday, I was given heartbreaking news and completely forgot this scripture. For 15 hours straight I was completely heartbroken and could not stop thinking about this new level of spiritual warfare, and was tested to hold on to my faith regarding the purpose and word that God has pronounced over my life. INITIALLY, I failed! What initial caught me of guard is that God has been warning me regarding this occurrence for a couple of weeks but I was completely blinded sided with the way it was presented. Though Jesus gave me insight, I didn’t consider that I wasn’t going to have a decision in a matter that greatly affects my day to day activities, possibly pulling me away from something I found so much joy and honor in. The news was devastating! I was davasted! For a moment, my emotions got the best of me. I could not stop (me failing the test) crying…
The next day one of my precious sister’s in the Lord began speaking life over me. I wasn`t (and still not) in total agreement with an aspect of her perspective on why such news shouldn’t bother me. However, one point she reminded me of which I know to be true is: all thing’s work out for the good of them that love the LORD and called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). Shortly after mediating on this and various other scriptures, Jesus presented me with the opportunity to share His Word and serve communion in the most unexpected environment, and to a person who told me the previous week they were going to kill themselves. Through the grace and love of God, I was able to present this person the gospel of Jesus Christ freely (the previous week I was limited). What happened next was so powerful. This person re-dedicated their life to Christ and was healed from the spirit of suicide!! Hallelujah Jesus! Hallelujah God!!!! This person then began to repent on their own to God for ever desiring to commit suicide!
I am reminded of three things:
1). Spiritual seeds are important to plant. This particular spiritual sister knows my love and commitment to Jesus, knows my call in ministry, and knows the authority I carry in Christ. Yet she did not wait for me to get over it or come to myself, but planted spiritual seeds of hope and faith in me immediately. Additionally, a brother in Christ called and prayed for me Wednesday evening. How often do we overlook spiritual leaders or Christians in general when we can obviously see they are in a storm or hurting? Eventually I would have certainly gotten over it because the depth of my soul trust Jesus and I’m sure they both know this, but I thank God for these two people who spoke life into me before too much damage or regret could be done. What if they hadn’t poured into me? I may have been too distracted or emotionally drained to pour into someone else, thus blocking the Lord from allowing me to be used to lead someone to healing and re-dedication to Christ!
2). Run to your bible, run to the Word of God, run to the Master’s feet!!! I basically ruined an entire evening and caused myself unnecessary stress by delaying my quiet time with Jesus. The devil would say, “it was only a day.” But I hear the Spirit of the Lord saying, “you almost missed an appointment!” I almost missed an opportunity to share the grace and love of God and guide someone to healing! That would have been awful! Additionally, complete peace only came upon me when “I” began to mediate on God`s Holy Word!
3). As Christians, whatever we compel others to do, we will be tested in! And, sometimes, it comes quickly. Prepare!
O LORD, forgive me! Against You and only you have I sinned.
